How to play
1. Introduction
Guessr Place is an online geography game where you attempt to guess actual locations based on Google Street View. You have a random place on the map, and you attempt to guess where it is as closely as you can. The closer your guess to the actual location, the higher the points you receive. You have the option to play solo or compete with others in several game modes.
2. Game Types
Guessr.Place has a wide variety of game modes to suit every taste.:
- Ranked: Wins and losses are recorded towards your global rank.
- Unranked: Play without affecting your score.
2.1 Singleplayer
In Singleplayer, you travel places by yourself. You can do it at a slow pace, glance around whenever you desire, and mark your guess on the map. It is ideal for practicing, learning geography, or simply unwind without tension. Your score is the closeness of your guess to the actual place. Play
2.2 Duel
Duel is a fast 1vs1 battle. You and another player spot the same location and try to make a guess at the same time. Whichever one of you guesses closer hurts the other one. Both of you have HP (health points), and the match continues until one of you exhausts all your HP. Duels are cool and require fast thinking and good map sense! Play
2.3 Duel vs Bot
Here, you will be playing against a bot opponent. Bot difficulty is automatically set based on your current rank, so the higher your rank, the smarter the bot. It's a great way to practice, practice in pressure mode, or master your skills prior to ranked duels. You do not have to wait for live players and can play at your convenience. Play
2.4 Classic
In Classic mode, you play 10 rounds and try to guess the position in every round. The nearer your estimate, the more points you score. After playing all 10 rounds, your score is announced. It's best for practice, comparing scores with friends, or to test your precision. You can replay rounds and attempt to improve your score. It's the closest way of playing the game. Play
2.5 Battle Royal
You are playing against numerous players in Battle Royal. We all see the same point, and in every round, players who over-estimate very far from the correct point get eliminated. The rounds get tough, and only the fittest continue playing. It continues until only a single player is left — the champion! You must be quick and accurate. It's an adrenaline survival mode where every round counts. Play
2.6 Private Game
Want to play alone with your friends or community? Create a Private Game! Customize the rules, map, and invite others with a code. Perfect for group fun, events, or classroom challenges. Only invited players can join, so perfect to play the game in your personal space. Play
3. How to start a game
So easy to start playing a game! Any of the left main menu modes or simply press the middle screen keys. They define the game type and short description. Simply choose one and play in seconds!

4. Game Flow
4.1 Game Start
Each game consists of several rounds. You’ll have a limited amount of time to explore the location and make your guess. The timer is visible on the screen, and the number of rounds depends on the game mode. Try to make the best guess before time runs out!

4.2 Exploring the Location
Once the round is initiated, you will be taken to a random place in Google Street View. You may view around you in 360° and, based on the game mode, drive along the roads. Pay close attention around you — road signs, language, landscape, automobiles, citizens, stores, etc.
Try to find clues which can help you make an informed guess about the area. For example:
-
Desert road would mean Africa or the Middle East
-
Cyrillic letters would mean Russia or neighboring regions
-
Left-hand driving would mean the UK, Australia, or Japan
-
Spanish signs and palm trees would mean South America
If you learn enough, you'll even know when you are in cities or well-known streets. Use all the information to make a guess where you are!

4.3 Make a Guess
Once you have some idea where the place is, click on the small world map in the bottom-right hand corner. Zoom and drag to find the place you believe the location is in. Click to place your marker, then click the 'Confirm' button to post your guess before your time is up.

4.4 Results & Stats
At the end of each round, you will see how close you got to the actual location. You will be awarded points depending on how close you got. When playing with other players, you will also get to view your score compared to theirs. It is a perfect method of keeping track of scores and learning geography!

4.5 End of the Game
After you've completed all the rounds, you will be led to the final results page. It shows your total score, your responses in each round, and how well you did. If you played with people, each person's ranking is shown on the leaderboard. You also get to view the correct places, review your mistakes, and play again. It's great for practicing and challenging yourself more the next time!

5. Profile
You can change your display name, avatar and choose your country on your profile page. It will also show what your rank is currently, how you're rated and what your game stats are. You can keep track of your progress, see how you're ranked in ranked games and how you're improving over time.

6. Settings
On the settings page, you can customize your experience. Choose your desired language, switch kilometers and miles on/off to use for measuring distance, and switch game sounds on/off. These settings allow you to play more to your taste.

7. Friends
In Friends page, you can see your friends now, sent and received friend requests, and blocked. Request a friend by using search option in main menu to find a player by name. Having management over your friend list makes playing together easy as well as communication with other players.

8. Games History
In the Games History page, you can see all your past games. It gives you the game date and time, winner, and match duration. You even get to click on any game for seeing detailed results and analyzing your performance round by round.

9. Leaderboard

10. Community Maps
10.1 Map Library
All the maps created by users can be viewed in Community Maps. You have: all maps, top maps, your maps, liked maps, your friends' maps, and official maps by region. When you touch any map, it will display its info, view the places, and play. When you have played, you can like the map if you enjoyed it. Open

10.2 My Maps
You will be able to see all your maps on your profile page. You can replay a map, unpublish it, delete it, or edit it. This chapter is intended to help you manage and develop your custom content.

10.3 Creating a Map
On the create map page, you are able to create your own customized map. You are able to add places manually, choose a place on the map, or import them from a JSON file. Once you're done, you'll be required to give a title and description to your map before posting. It's great to share cool spots with other people. Create

11. Clans
11.1 Make your own clan
You can create a clan from the main menu on the right side of the screen. When creating a clan, you’ll need to set a clan name, a short tag (up to 5 characters), and a description. The tagline is whatever you'd like — maybe it describes your personality or aspirations, or something lighthearted such as: “Masters of the unknown, bound together by maps and curiosity.” You can also include a Discord invite link to your clan if you wish to talk to members in-game.
Note: To be able to make or join a clan, you need to play 10 ranked games. Create

11.2 Your clan page
Your clan profile displays to you all the relevant details: clan name, rating, description, and members list. Following on is an activity feed for the clan with events such as members joining, role given, members deleted, or anything else. If you have the necessary permissions, you can alter the role of a member or delete them from the clan. There is also an “open Edit Clan” button, from which you can edit all settings and roles (see below section).

11.3 Edit clan information
Edit Clan page gives you a report to edit the clans' general information: name, tag, description, and Discord link by someone with the right role. You also have control over roles and permissions in the clan — e.g., who can invite new members, edit roles, or edit clan settings. This gives you flexibility as to how your clan is organized and managed.

11.4 Clan rating
A clan's ranking is also immediately impacted by the performance of its members in ranked matches. The moment a member of the clan finishes a ranked match, what he acquires or loses in rating also affects the clan ranking. The amount varies depending on the rating difference between the player and opponents. Active and quality players, then, contribute to their clan rising through the ranks. New clans all have a rating of 1000.
